Laser dentistry uses a focused beam of light instead of a blade to cut, shape or disinfect soft tissue in the mouth. At Care Dental Experts in Palakollu we use a diode laser for gum contouring, gum depigmentation, frenectomy, ulcer treatment and disinfecting root canal spaces. It reduces bleeding during the procedure and often removes the need for stitches. It does not replace drilling, and it does not make every treatment injection-free.

Why patients notice a difference
- Less bleeding. The laser seals small vessels as it works, so the field stays clearer and you leave with less oozing.
- Often no stitches. Many soft-tissue procedures heal without sutures, which also means no appointment to come back and have them removed.
- Less swelling for most people. Not none, less.
- Frequently less anaesthetic for small procedures. Some very superficial work needs only topical gel.
What laser dentistry is not
The laser does not remove decay in place of a drill for most cavities. It does not extract teeth. It does not make root canal treatment unnecessary. It is not painless in every case for every patient. And "laser" on a signboard does not by itself make a clinic better, the diagnosis and the hands using the instrument still decide the outcome. We list this because the term is heavily oversold in dental advertising.
Aftercare
First few hours
Avoid hot food and drinks until the numbness fully wears off, so you do not scald or bite the area.
First two days
Soft, cool food. Avoid spicy and acidic food, which stings a healing site. No smoking, no gutka, no pan.
Cleaning
Brush the rest of the mouth normally. Keep the treated area clean but gentle, and use the rinse we prescribe rather than a strong homemade salt solution.
Healing
Most soft-tissue sites settle within a week to ten days. Colour changes in depigmentation cases continue to even out for a few weeks.

Common questions
Is laser gum treatment painful?
Most patients describe warmth and pressure rather than pain, and many small procedures need only local or even topical anaesthetic. Larger gum surgery still needs a proper local anaesthetic injection. We will tell you which category your treatment is in beforehand.
Will laser gum depigmentation last?
The lightening is usually long-lasting, but pigment can slowly return over years, and it returns faster in smokers and gutka users. It is a cosmetic treatment and outcomes vary with your natural pigmentation level.
Can the laser treat my child's tongue-tie?
Laser frenectomy is commonly used for tongue-tie and lip-tie and generally heals with little bleeding and no stitches. Whether your child needs the procedure at all is a separate question. Many mild ties need nothing. We will assess feeding, speech and movement before recommending it.
Does the laser replace scaling for gum disease?
No. Deep scaling and root planing physically removes the hardened deposits that cause gum disease. The laser is used alongside it to disinfect the pocket, not instead of it. More on gum treatment.
