Minor oral surgery covers surgical procedures inside the mouth that go beyond a routine extraction, removing impacted teeth, treating dental trauma, draining infections and taking biopsies of suspicious lesions. What we handle here
Impacted teeth
Surgical removal of impacted wisdom teeth and other buried teeth, assessed on X-ray for nerve and sinus proximity first.
Dental trauma
Teeth knocked out, loosened or fractured after a fall or accident. Time matters enormously here, come immediately.
Abscess drainage
Draining a localised dental abscess to relieve pressure, alongside treating the tooth that caused it.
Apicoectomy
Surgically treating the root tip when a root canal has not resolved the infection and re-treatment is not viable.
Frenectomy
Releasing a restrictive lip or tongue attachment, usually with the laser and often without stitches.
Biopsy and lesion review
Assessment of white patches, ulcers that will not heal and other mucosal lesions, with biopsy or urgent referral.
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline. Never scrub it. If you can, push it gently back into the socket and bite on a clean cloth. If you cannot, keep it in a cup of milk (not water) and get to a dentist within the hour. The chance of saving it drops sharply with every 30 minutes outside the mouth.
Lesions we take seriously in this region
Gutka, khaini, pan masala and areca nut use is common across West Godavari, and it produces two conditions we screen for at every check-up:
- Oral submucous fibrosis, a progressive stiffening of the mouth lining that slowly reduces how wide you can open. It is strongly associated with areca nut, it does not reverse on its own, and it is a recognised pre-cancerous condition. Early detection changes the outcome.
- Leukoplakia and erythroplakia, white or red patches that will not rub off. Most are harmless; some are not. Any patch persisting more than two weeks should be examined.
If we see something suspicious, we will say so directly and arrange biopsy or referral without delay. We would rather worry you for a week than be reassuring and wrong.
When we refer instead of treating
We refer to a maxillofacial surgeon or hospital when a case involves jaw fractures, deeply impacted teeth close to major nerves, large cysts, spreading facial-space infections, or patients whose medical condition makes hospital-based care safer. Referring is not a failure, attempting something better done elsewhere is.

Common questions
Will I be asleep for oral surgery?
No, procedures here are done under local anaesthetic, so you are awake but the area is completely numb. If a case genuinely needs general anaesthesia, that means a hospital setting and we will refer you.
I have a white patch in my mouth. Should I worry?
Most white patches are harmless, but any patch, ulcer or lump that has not healed within two weeks should be examined, particularly if you use or have used gutka, pan or tobacco. Come in. This is a short appointment and the reassurance is worth having.
How soon should I come after a tooth is knocked out?

Can I eat before oral surgery?
Yes, and you should, a normal light meal beforehand is better than arriving on an empty stomach for a procedure under local anaesthetic. Take your regular medications as usual unless we have told you otherwise, and tell us about blood thinners well in advance.
