Braces and clear aligners in Palakollu

Straightening crowded, gapped or protruding teeth, with a clear picture of how long it will take before you start.

Braces and clear aligners move teeth gradually into better alignment using steady, light pressure over months. At Care Dental Experts in Palakollu we offer metal, ceramic and self-ligating braces, and assessment for clear aligners. Most cases run 12 to 24 months with an adjustment visit roughly every four to six weeks, and every case ends with retainers, permanently.

Best age to start

Around 11 to 14 is the classic window, once most permanent teeth are through and the jaw is still growing. But a first orthodontic assessment is worth having around age seven, not to fit braces then, but to catch a developing crossbite or a severely narrow arch while simple interceptive treatment still works.

Adults can absolutely have braces. Tooth movement works the same way at 35 as at 15; it is often a little slower, and the gums must be healthy first.

What the months actually look like

  1. Assessment and records

Examination, X-rays and photographs. We explain what is being corrected, roughly how long, and what the alternatives are, including doing nothing.

  2. Preparation

Any decay treated and a full clean before brackets go on. Braces over untreated decay is a guaranteed problem.

  3. Fitting day

60 to 90 minutes. No injection. Teeth feel tender for three to five days afterwards, soft food, ordinary painkillers.

  4. Adjustments

Every four to six weeks. Short appointments. Tenderness for a day or two after each one.

  5. Removal

Painless. Teeth are cleaned and polished on the same day.

  6. Retainers, for good

Teeth drift back if not retained. Expect a fixed wire behind the front teeth, a removable retainer at night, or both. This is the part patients skip and later regret.

Honest limitations

  • Braces need excellent brushing. Poor cleaning during treatment leaves permanent white marks on the teeth, straight teeth with scars is a bad trade.
  • Severe skeletal jaw discrepancies may need surgical correction that braces alone cannot achieve. We will refer rather than promise.
  • Some cases need teeth removed to create space. We will explain why before you agree.
  • Relapse is normal without retainers. Wear them.
  • Timelines are estimates. Biology varies, and missed appointments extend treatment.

Common questions

Do braces hurt?

Fitting them does not. The three to five days afterwards are tender, and each adjustment brings a day or two of soreness. Soft food and ordinary painkillers handle it. Brackets can also rub the cheek at first, orthodontic wax fixes that, and we send you home with some.

Can I have braces before a wedding?

It depends on the date. A full course takes a year or more, so if the wedding is in six months, braces may not be the answer, but bonding or a limited alignment plan sometimes is. Come in early and we will tell you what is realistically achievable by your date.

Are clear aligners as good as braces?

For mild to moderate crowding and spacing, they can achieve excellent results. For complex rotations, large gaps and significant bite corrections, fixed braces still control the teeth better. They also only work if you actually wear them 20 to 22 hours a day.

How often will I need to come in?

Every four to six weeks throughout treatment. That commitment matters if you are travelling from Bhimavaram or Tanuku, factor the journeys in before starting, because missed adjustments stretch the total time.

Not sure which treatment you need?

Bring your X-rays if you have them, or just bring the tooth that is troubling you. A consultation and examination is the honest first step. We will tell you if you do not need treatment yet.
